A Step by Step guide to installing SQL Server 2008 simply and successfully with no prior knowledge.

Before you start the installation, you’ll need to install the .Net 3.5 Framework

You can download Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Express with Advanced Services – Here

After you download the file, you’ll need to launch the program from the following dialog. Click the Run button to continue.

The next screen requests you accept the license agreement. Please make sure you do that or you could run into trouble later on if you violate the EULA. Click the Accept button to continue.

The installation will start and then you get to wait. It is at this point that the installer will examine and patch your operating system. While you think you’re up-to-date, you’ll probably see a couple patches applied before the real installation starts.

After you start the installation, you’ll see this dialog. It’ll even reappear after completing the install, and ultimately you may need to click the Cancel button. You don’t have to worry at that point because it’ll be installed.

After you’ve started, this is the dialog you’ll get after applying operating system patches. You’ve really no choice but to reboot if you want to install SQL Server 2008 Express successfully.

This is the first installation screen. Make sure you select the correct version of SQL Server 2008 Express. Typically, you’ll want the one with Advanced Services. Click the appropriate radio button, and then the Install button.

When you see this dialog, you’re installation has truly begun. Don’t click the Cancel button now.

The file extraction takes several minutes. Have something ready while you wait or take a break.

After the file extraction, you’ll see the SQL Server 2008 Setup Support Rules dialog. Click the OK button to continue.

You only get a choice on this dialog if you’re installing the full version. Choose Next to continue.

Check the I accept the license terms box, and then the Next button to continue.

All the rest was plumbing. Now you start the SQL Server 2008 installation. Click the Install button to continue.

You’ll see this for a few minutes before you’re prompted to continue.

You should get all check marks but a lot of folks forget to open the firewall ports. If you forgot, this is what you’ll get as output. Return to the top of the post and open the required ports before continuing. When you’ve opened the ports, click the Next button to continue.

You’ll get this prompt only when you failed to open the ports before beginning the installation. Click the OK button to continue.

The Feature Selection dialog is important. You should probably make the same choices as shown if you’re deploying a development machine. That’s really all you’d want to do with SQL Server 2008 Express edition. Click the Next button to continue.

Now you accept the installation of SQLExpress as the named instance by clicking the Next button.

Now you accept the 1,446 MB space requirement by clicking the Next button.

The account name must be an authorized user account defined by the operating system or left blank. Use the built-in Network Service account for all three services listed (this account does not require a password).

In addition, remember to change the Startup Type to Automatic, for all three services. This automatically starts the SQL Server database engine, SQL Agent and SQL Browser services when the server is re-booted.

Change the Authentication Mode to Mixed Mode unless you are certain you only need Windows-only authentication.

* Many third party applications rely on SQL Server logins to operate correctly, so if you are setting up a server for a third party application, rather than one developed in-house, enabling Mixed Mode authentication is a good idea.

If you pick Mixed Mode security, you must also enter a password for the sysadmin account (sa).
Enter and confirm a secure password for the sa account and keep it somewhere safe. Do not give it to any one you do not want to have access to the SQL Server.

Click Next button to continue.

Now the install will check if everything works before attempting it with the rules you’ve entered. Click the Next button to continue.

After verifying the installation is possible, you’ll see what you’re installing before you click the third Install button to continue.

It is now time for another break while SQL Server 2008 Express edition installs.

If you arrive at the next screen, SQL Server 2008 Express is installed.

Now you’ll see the final installation dialog and the link to the installation log file.

Now the final prompt before configuration. Yes, you must now reboot the system again.

You’ve now installed SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services

Cpanel now offering Enkompass For Free.

“After much consideration, cPanel has decided to offer Enkompass free of charge beginning October 12, 2011. cPanel Vice President of Product Development Ben Thomas made an announcement today during cPanel Conference about the plans for the future of Enkompass.

Thomas told the audience that although Enkompass is considered a stable, mature, and feature-packed product that is capable of enterprise- and production-level hosting, sales and distribution have not met expectations.

“All options for moving this product mainstream were considered, but ultimately the decision was made to move Enkompass to a no-cost control panel,” Thomas said.

With major concepts such as unlimited reselling, robust APIs, familiar interfaces, and multi-server technology, Enkompass was, and is, the most powerful Windows shared hosting product on the market. Coupled with familiar automation processed and Microsoft technologies, Enkompass has the ability to become the next de facto Windows control panel for web hosting providers.

Following a final release in Q4 of 2011, major feature development will slow, but our teams will continue to fix bugs and hot patches.

cPanel, Inc, remains healthy, strong, and focused on delivering mainstream hosting automation solutions. As part of the efforts in making Enkompass free of charge, cPanel will free internal resources, teams, and increase development hours on this product and other projects.”

Note: You may notice a brief interruption in your terminal services connection while the Qos packet scheduler installs. Once this completes you can move on to the installation of your preferred ftp server..

Step2. Installing the default IIS Ftp server

To begin installing the default window IIS ftp server Click on start >> control panel >> Add or Remove programs >> Add/Remove windows components

This will begin the installation process for the ftp service. And once complete this should be all you need to begin a default Plesk installation.

Step3. Installing the Plesk Control panel

Download the Plesk installation package for windows

Plesk 8.6 Full Distribution Package – Here

Plesk 9.5.5 Full Distribution Package – Here

If you encounter a error message regarding the Qos packet scheduled, refer back to the Qos packet scheduler installation instructions listed above

This will bring up the desired destination directories to install too, I would recommend leaving this as the defaults and clicking >> next

We recommend a typical installation unless you have other requirements. From here click on >> typical and then click on >> next

This will bring up the Plesk administrator password window, set the desired password and click >> next

This brings up the IIS work process scalability options, it is strongly recommended to check the box for “enabled on shared desktop for all w3wp “and then click >> next

This will bring up the installation confirmation window, from here you can click >> install

This will go through the installation process and once completed you will need to click >> finish

This will prompt you to restart your computer so you will need to click >> yes

After reboot, your windows Plesk installation should be ready to use

(where %plesk_dir% is the Plesk installation directory)

5. Click Next and the installation will show the information you have select.

7. Click Finish to finish the IonCube Loader installation.

8. Check if the IonCube libraries are saved on the Plesk PHP path.

It is the second Tuesday of the month which means it is patch day over at Microsoft. The Redmond based company has released a total of four security bulletins that month. One bulletin has received a maximum severity rating of critical, while the three others one of important. The critical vulnerability addresses a issue in the Bluetooth stack that could allow remote code execution. Affected are only Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7, and not Windows XP or earlier operating systems.

Two of the three remaining vulnerabilities address issues in the Windows operating system as well. Security bulletin MS11-054 describes a vulnerability in Windows Kernel-Mode drivers that could allow elevation of privileges, while bulletin MS11-056 a vulnerability in the Windows Client and Server run-time subsystem.

All supported Microsoft client and server operating systems are affected by the two security vulnerabilities. The last issue is a vulnerability in Microsoft Visio.

Here is an overview of all four security bulletins with links to their pages at the Microsoft Technet website.

* MS11-053 – Vulnerability in Bluetooth Stack Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2566220)
* MS11-054 – Vulnerabilities in Windows Kernel-Mode Drivers Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2555917)
* MS11-056 – Vulnerabilities in Windows Client/Server Run-time Subsystem Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2507938)
* MS11-055 – Vulnerability in Microsoft Visio Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2560847)

The patches are as usual already available via Windows Update, Microsoft Update and via the Microsoft Download Center. The monthly exploit mitigation guide at the Technet Security blog provides additional information about the vulnerabilities and deployment strategies.

Probably the easiest way to deploy the security updates to a single system is via Windows Update.

Just click on Start > All Programs > Windows Update to open the update screen. You may need to click on Check for updates on the left sidebar if your computer has been up for some time and the updates are not displayed directly in the main window.

Finding a good web hosting provider can be extremely difficult and tricky Job, because there are so many web hosting providers in Market. Plus, there are tons of resources designed to help people choose a good web hosting company, from word of mouth recommendations and forum posts, to web hosting review sites and customer testimonials. Here are a few tips to help you figure out which web hosting provider to choose.

First, if your website is targeting visitors or customers based in England, Wales, Ireland, or Scotland, then you should choose a UK web hosting provider. If you choose a hosting provider with servers or offices located in another country, then you will have to worry about slower load times for your website, fluctuating exchange rates, and time zone differences. This can affect in a great way on your website SEO and speed as well.

So, how exactly should you go about choosing a reliable and affordable uk web hosting company? Forum posts from current and previous customers of a web hosting company can provide you with useful feedback, but it is easy for employees of a web hosting company to write forum posts purporting to be their own customers (or customers of their competition). Unfortunately, this means forum posts are not always a reliable source of information about a company. You can also rely on reviews from web hosting review sites, but it also fairly easy for the staff members of a hosting company to write fraudulent reviews.

A lot of web hosting providers will have a section on their website full of customer testimonials. These are usually more reliable than forum posts or review sites, but you should realise that most web hosting companies will only publish positive customer testimonials. So, if you can’t rely on forum posts, review sites, or customer testimonials, then where can you get advice on choosing a reliable and affordable web hosting provider?

If you’re looking for a UK web hosting company, then you should ask for recommendations from anyone you know with a website who uses a web hosting UK based company. Word of mouth recommendations are most likely the most reliable source of feedback for products and service, so you should make use of them if you can.

I will also suggest to avoid paid review sites, which just shows some fake companies on top.

So you would like to get into the lucrative business of being a web hosting provider. Welcome to the club. There are many companies and individuals trying to break into the web hosting resellers market today. Reselling web hosting services offers you the ability to start your own internet-based business selling web space, but without the hassles or monetary expense of managing your own equipment.

But now that you’ve made that decision, what do you do? Where do you even start when it comes to creating a new business for this purpose? I hope to provide you with guidelines that can help you to achieve your goals.

The first thing to do is decide on what it is you wish to offer. Some resellers just want to offer hosting solutions for a cheap price hoping that they can make money on quantity. Alternatively, other resellers are design firms who have decided to offer hosting to augment their design offerings as well as open the door for additional customers. There are many reasons for becoming a reseller, and a multitude of options that can be offered to your customers. It is a very good idea to know who your prospective customer is before you even get started.

In addition to deciding on what it is you wish to offer, the next step is to consider how you want to offer it. Many resellers offer different flavors of reseller hosting. Here are a couple of the more common varieties:

• Agent Partners – This is when you become a “partner” with a web host, and resell their services. It is your job to find the customers, and when they sign up they become customers of your web host. You earn a recurring commission on the services they purchase. It is well known that you are not the actual hosting provider, just a partner.

• Private Label – If you would like your customers to believe that you are the actual provider, or do not wish for them to know whose services you resell then this is the option for you. The actual provider will supply you with the information you need and the appropriate tools to transparently offer their services as your own. It is not common knowledge that you are a reseller or whose services you resell.

Once you have decided who you will cater to and what kind of image you would like to portray, the next step would be to begin to research hosting providers who can accommodate your wishes. For example, if you wish to offer services for ASP developers, you will need to find a hosting provider who offers windows-based hosting and who can offer the reseller program you desire.

Selecting a provider may not be as simple as it sounds. There are many hosts available to choose from, some better than others. It is highly recommended that you find some references from the ones that match your intentions, to help narrow down your selection.

Once you have selected a provider you need to decide what you want your website to consist of. If you are skilled in web design, then you have an edge in this arena. Most do not, however, and need to employ web designers to build their site for them.

By becoming familiar with the options available by your provider, and by researching other web reseller’s websites, you can build a site map of how your web site should be architected. If you will be having a web design firm handle creation of the website for you, this is imperative if you would like receive an all-inclusive quote.

Be sure you know what it is you want from your designer. Some of them will offer services such as logo design and banner ad creation, as well. Ask for example work and references. It is also helpful if your designer has experience with web hosting sites. First impressions are everything when it comes to web hosting customers, so this is very important. You want to make sure to select a firm that can deliver what it is you need, with professional quality and at a fair price.

Once your site it created, your final step is advertising. You can have a professionally designed website and outstanding hosting plans to sell, but without proper advertising your potential customers will never know you exist. There are many ways to advertise on the internet. These include submitting your website to search engines, doing direct advertising with select web sites, and banner advertising with different exchanges. You will need to weigh the benefits of each along with your budget.

By following the above guidelines, you should be well on your way to a constructive and profitable web hosting venture. This is not to say that these guidelines are a sure-fire way to become an instant success. Any successful business requires effort and dedication. But by taking these guidelines and applying the right amount of good old-fashioned hard work and determination, you have the makings of lucrative venture.
